At The Altar of Existence

What shall I be when I stand before the Altar of Existence?

Is my being one of knowledge and wisdom?

Is my being one of learning, realising that my journey has emptied my cup.

Knowing what I don’t know, rather than being all knowing.

What may I see when I stand before the Altar of Existence?

Will I be engulfed in a calm blanket of pure white light?

Or will I stare, wide-eyed into the dark abyss?

Will I stand before the Altar as a being of gratitude?

Thankful for the wondrous journey of life.

Or will my being be one of begrudging?

Wishing for the journey to last longer, begrudging its end.

Cast me not to the all knowing, begrudging being.

Deliver me as an empty vessel of learning, brimming with joy and gratitude.

Lay me down upon the Altar so I may rest and recollect,

For at the Altar of Existence the journey begins.
